Cebu Series| Food Trip

Cebu is not just known for beaches, Sinulog and girls (you know what I mean right?), but for mouth watering delicacies as well.  Number 1 on the list of course is the lechon.  I have observed that pigs in the Visayas Region are leaner compared to Luzon's.

Oh my! cholesterol overload...
So upon landing in Cebu City at around 9:00PM, we wasted no time and boarded a jeepney looking for Zubuchon.  If you are on a budget and without much baggages with you, you can ride at the second floor a jeepney going to the Mactan town.  It will only cost you around Php9.00.  From there, you can check-in at Island Souvenir Hotel.

This resto was made "more" famous by KrisTV.  Thus, we became so curious to try it.

while waiting.. picture, picture muna

and we are excited for the lechon kahit mukhang wasted na
The lechon costs around Php500.00/kilo.  It has two versions - spicy and regular.  We wanted to try the spicy but it was not available at that time (lapit na kase magsara).  We only ordered half kilo and hot tea.  They said it is best with Kamias shake but we prefer hot tea to flush the oil.  They also offer other viands like sinigang, tinoland isda, etc.  Too bad we are quite tired already to eat a lot.

in fairness, ang bilis ng service... eto na ang malutong na balat
My verdict?  I like the skin since it's crunchy but I didn't quite like the taste of the meat.  For me, this is no longer lechon since it has a lot of spices already.  It tasted like "adobong puti". Since this is Cebu, no Mang Tomas lechon sauce is being served with the lechon, only vinegar and soy sauce.  I dunno if pairing it with MT will make a difference.  But in fairness, the pork is lean.

Next day when we returned to Cebu City from Oslob at 5:00PM, we just checked-in and freshen up, then we went to Kuya J for dinner.  This resto is used to be an old house and they specialize in grilled stuffs and scallops.  Now, it was renovated and with bigger area.  Sign of good business it is!  The food and ambiance is great, however, the service is quite slow since it's jampacked that night.  But this should not be a reason to have poor service, right?

cozy ambiance...

super affordable price with big servings...

Oh! love at first bite

this one is nicely done

still the best in Cebu

what do you think????

this is too oily for me

Sunday breakfast is just a walking distance from our hotel. This place seems to be highly recommended. The price is affordable and the food just OK.  What I love most is the mango shake.  Mangoes are really best here in Cebu.

my travel buddies.. Chris and Jane

super affordable prices

I ordered the spanish sarsilog... since they don't offer danggit (which is odd for me)

a steal for Php35.00

On our last day, we ensured to go to CNT for the lechon of course.  This is still the No. 1 famous lechon house here in Cebu.  From Ayala Mall, we boarded a jeepney going to SM (Php9.00 fare/person).  CNT is located just infront of SM mall. Or, you can just ask any local for the directions.

I think this is a new building (previous one looks like a typical carinderia)

see the fats all over the glass???

mouth watering lechon

simple counter

@Php450.00 per kilo, cheaper and tastier than Zubuchon

I love the lechon here more.  This is really lechon for me.  We also ordered chicharon bulaklak at Php70.00 for 1/4Kgs.  What I don't like is the temperature in this place.  It's really hot inside so it's so uncomfortable dining here.  But you should not miss eating their lechon.  You can also take this lechon with you as pasalubong.   They will nicely wrap it and put in a carry-on box.
