Malapascua Island| Thresher Cove Resort and Dive Center

happened on August 20-23, 2016

the shallow shore, lots of sea grasses
I'm fortunate to chance upon this hotel while browsing through agoda.  I first research about it before booking and it's included in the most recommended accommodations.  I booked in advance and so happy with the "pay later" option with no extra charge.

Thresher Cove Resort and Dive Center is a small resort situated in one of the coves and unexploited side of Malapascua Island.  It is owned by a European national and also being managed by another European national.

"Thresher Cove is bounded by hills on three sides making it totally secluded and secrue.  The safe blue waters of the Visayan Sea lap gently sloping.  100m long white sand beach that will serve as the gateway to your holiday adventures." (source: website)

It is still around 15 mins. motorcycle ride from the port to this hotel.  They will pay for the motorcycle fare so it's a plus factor.  But I didn't realize that you still have to climb some natural stairways to reach it.  It's like climbing a hill then there's a guarded gate.  Your reservations will be properly verified before entering.  It's secured, yay!  Then this is the view that will welcome you.

Checking-in is a breeze.  You will be served with complimentary drinks and ushered to your room.  We just booked for de luxe villas since this is the cheapest exclusive room at Php1,850.00 per night.

The room is spacious and have the basic amenities.  What I love about it is the terrace. I stayed here most of the time for stronger Wi-Fi signal.

They also offer a big villa that can house 6 people.  It costs Php8,000.00 per night during peak season.

They have a restaurant that is open from 7:00AM to 10:00PM.  We ate our complimentary breakfasts here.  For the first two days, they only offer hotdogs, cereals, pancakes and congee.  My friend J requested for fish on our last day which they gladly obliged.  The staff are so pretty, courteous and quick.  We also ate dinners and I can say that they offer good food with affordable prices.

We also enjoyed playing Jenga since we cannot go out at night due to heavy rains.

Other amenities include an outdoor gym, volleyball court, swimming pool (usually used for diving lessons), a shore and an overlooking viewing area.

Do take note that Malapascua Island is best known for diving.  It is a good spot in encountering tresher sharks and manta rays.  Thus, it is a PADI accredited diving center which offers introductory to advanced diving courses.  In fact, most of the guests are Europeans having diving courses.  They have backpackers rooms for only Php500.00/person. I learned that open water lessons and certification will cost Php18,000.00 without the accommodation and food.  I'm thinking to return and enroll for an open water certification.  I'm crossing my fingers for this.

If you are not interested in a diving certificate, you can just avail of the intro diving for Php3,000.00 only including lesson and all the gears needed for this activity.  You will have a dive master or instructor to assist you so you need not worry.

Plus factor:
1. the amazing view of the ocean
2. the serene and tranquil location
3. good food being served
4. board games and some films avaialable in the restaurant
5. diving lessons, certification and activities
6. with swimming pool
7. nice staff
8. friendly manager
9. the clothes line (for wet clothes)
10. prompt service

For improvement:
1. water is literally salty, so you have to use distilled water in brushing your teeth and washing your face
2. provision of a blanket
3. addition of toothbrush and toothpaste in the toiletry kit
4. weak Wi-Fi signal
5. additional breakfast choices
