Cambodia 2016| Trip to Bokor Mountain

happened on March 8-9, 2016

This place is a great escape from Phnom Penh's scorching hot weather.

It was such a grateful experience that A treated us here.  Due to our very tight schedule, we only have two days for this trip.

market scene
Land travel is almost 5 hours from Phnom Penh so half day was spent on travelling alone.  From the entrance in going up the mountain, you will be welcomed with lots of flowers along the way and the cool breeze.  The mountain is being enveloped by fog.  The clouds have descended indeed!

so refreshing sight

You will then be welcomed by this gigantic Buddha shrine.  It differs from the other Buddha statues as this one resembles a female and the color is bright, bringing some sunshine to this mountain.   Travelers usually stop here to offer some prayers.  There are also interesting natural stone carvings.

A even arranged for our hotel accommodation in the only hotel in this area - the Thansur Bokor Highland Resort.  It's a huge hotel.  It must have been a sought after hotel during those times.  Sadly, nowadays, only few people stay here.  It has a casino, gym and restaurant.  The weather is really nice here.  It's so cold at night.

comfy beds

Lunch is Cambodian cuisine of course.  I ordered the safe fried chicken but still tasted differently.

After settling in, A again arranged for our tour on this mountain.  We were assigned with a funny guy named F.

Old French Catholic Church - this church has stood the test of time and war. It was burned but its structure remained sturdy.  I love this quaint church.  It has its own charm especially when being enveloped by clouds.  It looks mysterious.

The Old French Hotel Ruins - this was restored already.  It also looks mysterious and seeing it under the clouds is like playing hide and seek.  It's like being resurrected from the dead.  This was not spared from our photo shoot. The details are soooo amazing from the tiles to the interiors.  You can simply imagine how grand it used to be and how parties are being held here.

I can imagine how grand the parties being held here during those times.

adding some color
The Old Palace - this used to be the home of the Royal Family before the civil war.  It also being enveloped by clouds.  It's really cold in here.  Come winter time, I'm sure the weather will be unbearable.

The Old Temple - details and colors are so amazing. we took most of our time here looking at every detail.. I instantly felt peace here.

The Penis Plant - seeing them to be replicas of the male organ is just amazing.  They are one of a kind plant.  We have a good laugh with our guide as he showed us the different kinds of penis - from young to old, and from Asian to European.  He even joined the jump shot.

having so much fun

The Popokvil Waterfall - it's Summer time so there is no waterfall but boulders of rocks.  I can imagine it to be a nice waterfall during the heavy rains.  We just tried to search our zen area.

The Swan Boats - our last stop for the day.  It's included in our tour so we took opportunity in having a photo shoot here.  It's like a lost area or the ones you can see in the movies - the deserted and creepy ones.  My imagination is just wild I guess ^-^.

It was a very tiring day but filled with adventure and fun.  We were not able to check the hotel's casino as we are dear tired already so we only had room service for our dinner.  Day 2 of adventure next...
