Dumaguete| Bais Dolphin Watching and Manjuyod Sandbar

happened on February 25, 2017

one of the stilts in Manjuyod Sandbar
How to get there by public transpo?  Go to the Dumaguete-Bais terminal and ride a bus for Php35.00 for non-A/C and Php60.00 for A/C.  Just tell the conductor to drop you where you can Dolphin watch.  Some pedicabs are already waiting for tourists for the packaged tour and will take you to Capinahan Wharf.  It's important that you buy lunch first that you can bring during the tour.  We opted for a drive through Jollibee, We did it in style.

boats for rent

We got the boat for Php3k (good for 10 persons).  Yep, the price is outrageous for this packaged tour - dolphin watching and Manjuyod Sandbar.  But seeing dolphins for real is priceless I guess. ^-^

our rented boat, for 10 people

The boat will initially cruise along Bais Bay then to Tanon Strait where the dolphins usually are.

It's so surreal seeing the dolphins in the ocean.  I'm used to seeing them in the theme park but this is really amazing.  They are swimming freely.  It's a delight to see them suddenly appearing from nowhere.  But you can see them for a split second only.  It's a big challenge in capturing them in action.  Later, I just forgot about the camera and enjoyed them with my own eyes.  I had a great time anticipating and seeing them jump for seconds.

After an hour or so, the boatman said that it's time for the next destination as the dolphins will no longer show up.  We're fine with it.  We have seen at least 20 dolphins already and that's good enough compared to my experience of not seeing even just one (in Bohol).

can you see them?
Our final destination is the Manjuyod Sand Bar.  It is called Maldives of the Philippines since it's has stilt houses that can be rented.  The color of the water somehow resembles Maldive's.  The water is crystal clear yet so cold at that time.  The sand is prestine white also.  We docked here for about 2 hours before going back to the shore.

We bought the shells and wild scallops for only Php200.00.  These were cooked in the boat.

Don't miss this tour when in Dumaguete.
