Nothing to be Afraid of Siquijor

happened on February 23, 2017

With  a lot of good reviews on this place, I was really dying to see it.  Finally after a long wait for a promo ticket to Dumaguete, we experienced Siquijor - the land of mystery and many folk tales.

It was just an overnight visit but we were still able to see the much recommended spots.  We hired a multicab to roam around the tiny town for Php 1,500.00.

I was speechless after reaching the port.  It was a refreshing sight after two hours of sea travel.  Just look at its waters!  Instantly, all my fears about this place were swept away.

The vehicle we rented is already waiting for us for the tour that we have availed when we arrived.  First stop is the most famous landmark - Siquijor Church

Then a quick lunch at the nearby eatery.  Food is served fresh and sooo affordable.  People are so friendly and accommodating.  It's a great start off.

For the tour proper, it was jam packed.  Our tour guide/driver is so kind and we were well taken care of.

1. Guiwanon Spring Park and Mangrove Forest

This mangrove forest is just a short trail but with nice scenery and the color of the water is also amazing. for only Php10.00 entrance fee.  It's so nice to get lost here for awhile.

2. the Mangroves along the way

This is the usual sight here.  Obviously, with the presence of mangrove trees, Siquijor is still clean and eco-balanced.

3. Century old house - this is already an abandoned house.  It should have been restored since it's already a significant landmark of this town.  A single strong storm can demolished this house.

4. Saligdoong Beach - one of the most popular beach destinations in Siquijor where you can cliff dive.  There is a slide also directly to the beach.  Before reaching the beach, you have to pass this enchanting and mysterious road.  It's like being in a fairy tale.  The water is also crystal clear.  I love to take a dip but we still have a lot to go to so I let it pass.  I suggest a whole day swimming here.  There is also a restaurant here and cottages for an overnight stay.

jumpshot it is!

just laze around if  you're not up for swimming

5. Lazi Church and Convent

The San Isidro Labrador Parish Church was built in 1884, making it one of the oldest churches in the Philippines.  It is made of limestone and some corals.  The convent was completely built in 1891of coral stones and hard wood.  It is on-going major renovation now so it is not entertaining visitors.  It was declared a National Culture Treasure by National Museum of the Philippines. 6.  Cambugahay Falls - probably the most famous tourist spot here.  It's a tiring 10 minutes descending uneven stairs.  But what's waiting for you is simply breathtaking.  As expected the color of the water is aquamarine.  The falls is so clean.  One of the highlights here is the "baging jump" where you will jump into the waters aka "Tarzan way".  We're even fortunate to tour around here with the Montero brothers.

does he looks familiar???

the famous baging jump

7.  The old Balete tree and fish spa - the view going there is so nice.  We saw the crocodile looking island. The fish spa is refreshing.  The way the fishes bit on my feet is so ticklish.  I'm so afraid of the big fishes.  For Php30.00 entrance only, you can already enjoy this spa.  There is also a souvenir shop here that sells affordable items.  Buy the voodoo dolls here and other concoctions.

really ticklish and the big fishes are freightening me

8. Paliton Beach - this is one of its hidden gem.  TG! there is still an untouched beach in the Philippines.  I love its rawness and not so crowded place.  Watching the sun set is so surreal.  My world stopped for a moment.  Too bad, we didn't have enough time to stay and enjoy it more.  This is a reason to come back.

This is one of those days that you don't want to end and just keep on making memories....

I recommend to stay at least 4 days here to fully enjoy the place.  Just look at the beautiful beaches and look forward to the sun setting in.
