This bakery was set-up in the 1920s and still retain its old vibe. It's architecture and aesthetic is a simple old house with some memorabilia.
Aside from offering cooked meals, you can also buy some "pasalubongs" here. Prices are higher though compared to other souvenir shops in Bacolod.
I love the mango shake and super affordable for P55.00 only for about 500ml. I believe that we really have the best mangoes in the world.
My verdict:
the shuttle terminal which is beside El Ideal Bakery |
After two cancelled air flight bookings (TG! our airfare was cheap) , our travel to Bacolod finally pushed through. Our airfare for this travel is only at Php1,500 per person for roundtrip fare already. Booking in advance is always the key, guys!
If you are not familiar with the Negros province yet, the new airport is located in Silay City which is 30 minutes by land travel to Bacolod. Yep, you have to pass by this heritage city before reaching Bacolod which I find to be a blessing since you will have the time to tour around this heritage place.
From the airport, there are taxis and shuttle vans available going to Silay City proper and Bacolod City. Here are the rates as of this time:
Shuttle vans to Silay proper - Php50.00 per person; drop-off is in front of San Diego Church and near El Ideal Bakery
Shuttle vans to Bacolod City - Php100.00 per person
Tariff rate for Taxis to Bacolod City - Php 500.00 one way
In Silay City, the first thing that you will notice are the old homes and structures. It's like being transported back to the Spanish regime.
With a manageable luggage on my hubby's hand, I decided that we explore Silay City first (as strongly advised in the blogs I've stalked for the past few months). Honestly, I have a list of the tourist spots here but have no clue on how to get there hehehehe. So when I saw El Ideal Bakery upon alighting the van, I immediately dragged hubby to eat brunch there since it's raining at that time.
the ground floor was renovated but the upper floor was left as it is |
with an antique telephone set which the affluent can only afford at that time |
The way to order is through this cashier which is "pay as you order". There's no menu booklet available. You just have to look at this board, order, pay, get a table and wait for your order to be served. That simple! I'm grateful to Manang that she guided us on how to go to some of the famous tourist spots aside from recommending their best sellers.
Here's our order:
so many options |
Here's our order:
mine only - guava pie, bam-I and mango shake |
for hubby - a gigantic cheese burger deluxe |
so yummy and so cheap |
notice the sugar? |
My verdict:
Price - reasonable
Taste - 4 out 5 spoons
Ambiance - 4 out 5
Service - though the staff are nice but the service is quite slow. We waited for 30 minutes for our food. I wasted the time shooting every corner of this restaurant.
Later in the afternoon, I was told by a friend that I should try their Lumpiang Sariwa which is one of their best sellers. Haist, di man lang nasabi sakin agad. Anyways, I now have a reason to come back.
